Text-based coding of workflows

Hi guys

I’m not a fan of visual programming, I don’t believe the ease of use is worth much when the conceptual structure remains the same. For some use cases it is fine, but I constantly hit my head on annoying interface issues or limiting functionality, and I would love to find another way.

Does anyone know of a way to use conventional code to generate/read the xaml files?

Hello @kbak!

It seems that you have trouble getting an answer to your question in the first 24 hours.
Let us give you a few hints and helpful links.

First, make sure you browsed through our Forum FAQ Beginner’s Guide. It will teach you what should be included in your topic.

You can check out some of our resources directly, see below:

  1. Always search first. It is the best way to quickly find your answer. Check out the image icon for that.
Clicking the options button will let you set more specific topic search filters, i.e. only the ones with a solution.

  2. Topic that contains most common solutions with example project files can be found here.

  3. Read our official documentation where you can find a lot of information and instructions about each of our products:

  4. Watch the videos on our official YouTube channel for more visual tutorials.

  5. Meet us and our users on our Community Slack and ask your question there.

Hopefully this will let you easily find the solution/information you need. Once you have it, we would be happy if you could share your findings here and mark it as a solution. This will help other users find it in the future.

Hi @kbak,
Our motto is to give a robot to everyone. So the base of it is a visual interface that allows users for smooth interaction and ease of use. There is no other way to work within the Studio however if you feel better at coding things you can also use an invoke code activity where you can code things inside the XAML.

I get that, and I think it’s a great approach - but as people gain proficiency with the visual coding, the limitations will become obstacles. Visual programming will never be as fast or flexible as text based.
It would be awesome to have a tool like the UIPath activities tie in to python scripting - selecting buttons to generate selectors for code based manipulation.

I hope my perspective makes sense, and that your tools could be expanded towards the more technical crowd as well.
