Getting "Device ID already activated" error while tyring to start UiPath Studio community edition

Installer: UiPathStudioSetup.exe (latest version as on 25-Jan-2019, community edition)
License type: Free

Screenshot: CommunityEditionActivationError_UiPathStudio_25jan19

Below are some more descritions on the issue.

I registered for UiPath community edition using my official mail id (I think my personal gmail is not allowed). Then following the download link for community edition via mail, I downloaded the file “UiPathStudioSetup.exe” which was of 12,54,89,968 bytes on my windows 10 laptop.
When I double clicked the exe, it installed the UiPath in the folder “C:\Users\my_login_name\AppData\Local\UiPath”

When I invoked the “UiPath.Studio.exe” from the installed folder.
For thefirst time I received the following error once (Licence status: Undetermined)
I got the following error:

Then I removed the folder UiPath from user\my_name\AppData\Local and reinstalled the UiPathStudio. Then onwards I am getting “Device ID already activated”.

---------INITIAL ERROR-------------
Activation failed with error: -4006
Error description: Server returned invalid XML.
Licese status: Undetermined

---------Subsequent ERROR-------------
Error description: Cannot use Community Edition on this machine after activating a trial or Enterprise license code. Please enter a valid license key.
License status: Device ID already activated

N.B.: Attachd the error screenshot.
I have masked the device id and personal details form the screenshot.

Can anybody from uiPath team help by removing the Device ID from server licence registration (I am using community edition)
Regards

Have a look at this,

You can raise a support ticket to UiPath,

Thanks,

Hi @Rammohan91 ,
For UiPath Community Edition users, there is no option to raise any support ticket to uipath. The only option left is the forum posts, hence I posted this ticket. I want somebody form UiPath support team to clear my Device ID from the licence server so that I will be able to use the CE version for the first time on this particular Win10 laptop where I am trying to run UiPath studio for the first time. Any idea on how to reach the uipath support guys. The above support link (“Contact Licensing…”) does not help much. All I could find is an advise to post at a forum.
Regards

@loginerror @ovi Just in case you can help.

Thanks,
Rammohan B.

Hi @chin

See this topic, it is a working workaround for this issue:

Hi @loginerror,
Checked the post from @ovi, that you referred.
This post assumes the user to have

  • UiPath already installed and working fine
  • Already connected to orchestrator

In my case I am just a novice user to UiPath and my UiPath studio has not yet started even for the first time on the current machine.
Being a community user, how can I get rid of the error, so that I can start experiencing UiPath.
Thanks

The moment you run the .exe installer, it performs an installation to your user folder. If you got to the screen where it asks you to license your Studio, this means it is installed and working fine

What you now have to do:

  1. Search your Start menu for UiPath Robot and launch it - it will open a system tray agent.

  2. Go to the Community Orchestrator CE, create a tenant and then provision a robot following the thread from here:
    Connecting Robots to Orchestrator

After you connect your Robot to the Orchestrator via the system tray agent, you will be able to launch your Studio and select the option to license it from Orchestrator

Nice.
It looks interesting.
I will try that out and will let you know, in both cases, either successful or blocked somewhere.
Appreciate your effort.

Hello @loginerror,
I could not make out much from your reply, I will try your suggestion this weekend.
But I tried the following. Request you to check whether I am going wrong somewhere.
I tried renewing my community licence at the following site
https://www.uipath.com/renew-community-license
and got the following message.

Then I stopped UiPath studio, killed the service from task manager. deleted the installed folder from appdata\local\UiPath and reinstalled the UiPath studio.

Now when I restart the studio I get the following error message consistently
Can you or anybody from UiPath technical support team come to my resque.

Activation failed with error: -4006
Error description: Server returned invalid XML
License status: Undetermined

Device ID: V7eshAVc9InH77ik0p37
Computer: xxxxxxx
User Name: xxxx.xxxx

You can see here for this error message:

Thanks @loginerror.
I connected to direct itnernet and got one step forward but still blocked.
Please note that the email id I am now registering with was earlier registered with some UiPath version (I am not sure whether I was using trilal version or community edition).
I donot have access to that old machine where UiPath was installed. That machine is already formatted.
Now I am getting the following error.
Please help on how to clear my last entry from the UiPath licence server.

Activation failed with error: 0
Error description: Cannot use Community Edition on this machine after activating a trial or Enterprise license code. Please enter a valid license key.
License status: Device ID already activated

Device ID: V7eshAVc9InH77ik0p37
Computer: xxxxxx
User Name: xxxxxx.xxxxxx

This is well explained over here:

The idea is to simply run UiPath Robot from the Start menu, connect it to Orchestrator CE and then run Studio and license it via Orchestrator CE

Hi @loginerror, @Rammohan91
I was finally able to get rid of the error “Device ID already activated” during starting of UiPath studio after the device ID was cleared by uipath support team. I raised a request at the link for “Contact Licensing & Activations” (which was referred by Ram earlier) and provided my device ID there to get that cleared from licensing server.
Thank you all for your help.

Hi @loginerror,
I was able to get my UiPath studio up and running after the device ID was cleared by uipath support team. I raised a request to uipath at “Contact Licensing Queries & Activations” with my device id and they clared it.
