Chrome Extension (2)

OK, so I download the Setup file for the Community Edition.
I get it up and running. First Question: Do I always have to Activate it everytime I boot it up ?
To move on; I try to set up a simple task by using the Recorder but get told I need to Activate my Chrome Extension. I look and see I have no Extension to Activate. I then look on the Forum and see Chrome broke the Extension but this issue is fixed in the new Beta 2019 version. So I go look for the Beta Channel which is hidden somewhere as there’s absolutely no clear indication where the hell it is.
So, my Second Question: Where can I download a version that actually works with Win10 that has the latest version of Chrome ?
And Third and Final Question: Why do I have to go this route without being told somewhere along the line, fairly early on, that the app that I downloaded doesn’t actually work ?
This really doesn’t endear me towards UIPath…
Thanks

@Genius,

Install extension for Chrome browser and then restart it.

Sounds simple but where do I get it from ?

@Genius Have a look Here

Thanks. I read that before but I don’t have an Installer. When you click on the Trial link and download the Community version you get a Setup file and there is no Studio Installer

@Genius After downloading what you are getting

UiPathStudioSetup file

@Genius I think exe is missing just rename file with .exe

Well I know it’s an Application and boots up fine and it says in the app that it’s installed the extension. But it hasn’t. I need the latest Beta version

Hi @Genius

Allow me to address all your questions.
Rest assured that every bit of feedback you’ve already given us will be used to improve our user’s experience on the Forum and in our products.

I have to also point to our documentation article here, which explains the workaround to get the Chrome extension working on 2019.3 without switching to Beta channel:
https://studio.uipath.com/docs/chrome-extension#section-extension-fails-to-install-after-google-chrome-update

Now to the questions

1.

Do I always have to Activate it everytime I boot it up?

Short answer - no.
Long explanation:
There are two possible installers:

  • Community Edition (UiPathStudioSetup.exe), which will install UiPath products (Studio and Robot) just for your user in this location:
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UiPath
  • Enterprise Edition (.MSI file) about which we don’t have to say much here

When you run the Community Edition .exe installer, it clears the above-mentioned path and re-installs the Studio and Robot. If you keep running the installer, it will keep asking you to activate the Studio because it clears the saved licensing information.

Solution: after instalation, open Studio from Start menu

2.

Where can I download a version that actually works with Win10 that has the latest version of Chrome ?

Your .exe installer should be enough to get it working. The way to be absolutely sure you get the Beta version, follow the few steps below. Basically, the idea is to install your version, open Studio from Start menu, switch to Beta channel, restart Studio to make it download the files and then restart Studio again to open the new version. We acknowledge that it could be simpler here and there and we will improve it

Same steps in a more visual way:
0. Have Studio installed.

  1. Open Studio from Start menu
  2. Go to SettingsHelp and select Beta channel
  3. Restart Studio
(when opened again, Studio should start downloading your Beta version; you can verify if that’s happening by going here: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UiPath
    It should look like so:
    image
  4. Wait until all files are downloaded
  5. Restart Studio for changes to take effect. Safe action here is to actually restart your machine first to make sure the Robot service is properly restarted as well.

3.

Why do I have to go this route without being told somewhere along the line, fairly early on, that the app that I downloaded doesn’t actually work ?

I have hard time addressing this question, given the available resources both in our official documentation as well as pinned topics on the Forum. We will, however, seriously consider available options. Feel free to make suggestions, as those are always welcomed!

Hi there I dont have a beta option to select as per above steps. Is this still the best solution to get the Chrome ext working for the Community version of studio?

Hi @suzie.matwe7

Welcome to our UiPath Forum!

It should work out of the box on any latest version of Studio Community Edition. If you have trouble with Studio installation, check out this document:
