Using Task Capture to generate event logs for Process Mining

The Task Capture product demo says that it produces a PDD and shows a WORD doc with statistics and refers to metadata such as clicks and timestamps. Can this meta data be extracted from the XAML file or other log file so that the single execution can be used to create an event log with CaseID, ActivityID and Timestamp to import into Process Mining? Yes I know Task Capture is showing the same thing and probably even more robust but I’d still like to explore how it can be used in Process Mining since the statistics are there. Thanks!

Hi @karlv

  • Task Capture doesn’t inherently create XAML files or log files for process mining purposes, nor does it directly generate event logs with CaseID, ActivityID, and Timestamp.
  1. Use Task Capture to record and document the steps involved in process.
  2. Task Capture can export its captured data to various formats, including Microsoft Word documents, Excel files, and image files. However, it may not natively export data in a format suitable for process mining.
  3. Depending on the process mining tool you’re using, you may need to transform the exported data to meet the input requirements of your process mining software. This could involve extracting and restructuring the data to include CaseID, ActivityID, Timestamp, and other relevant information.
  4. Import the transformed data into your process mining tool of choice. Popular process mining tools include Celonis, ProM, and Disco, each of which has its own data import and format requirements.
  5. Once the data is imported, you can analyze and visualize the process using the capabilities of your chosen process mining tool.
  • Task Capture provides a way to document processes and collect interaction data, it may not be as feature-rich as dedicated process mining tools when it comes to process analysis and automation. Dedicated process mining tools often offer more advanced features for process discovery, conformance checking, and performance analysis.

  • If you are looking for a more seamless integration between process capture and process mining, you might want to explore whether the process mining tool you’re using provides any integrations or add-ons for capturing processes directly or consider working with a consultant or developer to build a customized solution tailored to your needs.

Thanks very much for that insight.
