How to use functions keys of legacy applications while recording

Hi,
How to use functions keys of legacy applications while recording.
I am trying to automate a data entry screen written in VB.NET which uses grid for multiple rows. The software uses functions key F3 for search activity. I am unable to mimic the activity because F3 has an another function while recording.

Please help
