Do Mobile Automation projects still run on windows?

Hello,

I know that for regular processes, the robot.exe runs the workflows on a Windows server. When doing mobile automation, do our processes still run on a Windows instance and just interact through Appium with the emulator/mobile device? Or does the workflow itself run on the mobile operating system.

The workflow is executed on windows and controls the mobile device/simulator via Appium.

Thank you. This is what I assumed but I’ve never worked with mobile devices. We have an OS specific SDK we need to utilize, and I needed to know what would work.
