"Access Denied" error occurs during development and debugging execution

:white_question_mark: Question

I am developing automation for a certain system.
In doing so, I encounter the following behavior, and I am unable to develop or debug run. Please provide a solution.

・When opening Studio with normal permissions

  • An “Administrator privileges are required” error occurs when getting selectors.
  • An error stating “Administrator privileges may be required” occurs when performing operations on the target system during debugging.

・When opening Studio with administrator privileges

  • Selector retrieval is possible.
  • An “Access denied” error occurs immediately after starting (before operating the target system) during debugging.

:light_bulb: Answer

Cause

The cause is that the execution permissions of each component are not aligned.
The components include the following:

  • UiPath.Studio.exe
  • UiPath.Executor.exe (Robot runtime)
  • UiPath.Service.UserHost.exe (Robot Service) / Assistant
  • Target system

Solution

After starting the target system, please check what permissions are being used from the Task Manager.
Please launch Studio and Assistant with the confirmed permissions.

Example) If you find out that the target system is opened with administrator privileges after checking:

Set both UiPath.Studio.exe and UiPath.Assistant.exe to “Run this program as an administrator” and restart them.

■ Steps

  1. Open the application to be operated on.

  2. Right-click on the target application process from the Task Manager.

  3. Click on “Open file location.”

  4. Right-click on the target .exe.

  5. Click on Properties > Compatibility.

  6. Check “Run this program as an administrator.”

  7. Also check the same on “Change settings for all users.”
