Struggling with Browser Communication Error in UiPath?

I’m currently facing an error that says, “Cannot communicate with browser,” while working in UiPath Studio. After searching online, I found that this issue often occurs when the Chrome browser version and UiPath Studio version don’t match. In my case, I’m using UiPath Studio version 2020.10.11, and it seems I need to update the studio to install a compatible UiPath extension for Chrome.

However, there’s a catch: I have a licensed version of UiPath, and I don’t want to uninstall it. The problem is that I can’t download the latest version of UiPath Studio without uninstalling the current one. Has anyone else dealt with this situation? I’d really appreciate some guidance on how to resolve this without losing my licensed setup. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Pradumn_Chavan,

This happens because of the issue in chrome extension. You don’t need to uninstall UiPath studio for this. This can be resolved by re-installing chrome extension.

Can you share the screenshot of chrome extension from your web browser? which version is your chrome UiPath extension currently?

And how have you installed it? You can fetch these details by directly navigating to link → chrome://extensions/

You can do the following:

  1. Install it via studio. Go to Home → Tools → UiPath extensions → install chrome extension by selecting “current user” if its for your personal machine.
  2. then open chrome, you will see the pop up asking to enable extension, enable it and you will see your extension in browser.

Or you can choose to manually install chrome extension by selecting the direct link of that extension from the list below:

Preferred method: to install via studio

Hi @sonaliaggarwal47

Thank you for the suggestion! I actually tried this solution before posting here, but it only worked temporarily. Once I closed Chrome and reopened it, the issue came back. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there a more permanent fix?

Thanks

Hi @Pradumn_Chavan,

yes, we have faced it multiple times…
How had you installed it?

Sometimes company policy can interfere with the extension.

When you say, issue came back, do you see extension in chrome? is it enabled?

I can see in chrome but it’s saying that extension is not enable you can refer attached image.

Hi @Pradumn_Chavan,

So you dont have any extension installed currently. Also, i can see the one from the screenshot is quite old version.

Can you please install extension per steps I mentioned in my above post?

Sonali

I did it several time this is becouse my studio is by default installing this old version of extension.

Hi @Pradumn_Chavan,

I think when you are installing from studio, nothing is getting installed or this older version is getting installed. this also happens sometimes.

So, in this case, we go for manual installation like below:

  1. copy paste below url in chrome, hit enter.
    https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/uipath-browser-automation/jfcmnbofjlffnejneillkgbniiidiigd
  2. Click Add to chrome
  3. then enable extension

This will add 23.10 extension to the chrome

What version of Studio are you on? It can’t install an old version of the extension unless you’re using an old version of Studio.

Try upgrading the extension. Also upgrading the studio wont impact your license. You can upgrade studio as well

I’m using studio v20.10.11

Hi @Pradumn_Chavan

Pls clear Chrome’s cache, and check for any corporate policies that might be disabling the extension.

@Pradumn_Chavan,

Were you able to try these manual steps to install extension?

Sonali

It’s alright. We also have different combinations of studio and extensions installed at our end, should work.

Many of our 23.10 are running with the latest chrome version.

Thank you for all your assistance, but the issue still persists. I’m considering uninstalling the current version of the studio and reinstalling the updated one.

You need to upgrade. You’re using an ANCIENT version.

Hello Folks,

This has been resolved by uninstalling prev version and install new version.
