Selectors and anchors

Can’t select a window in an app using either selectors or anchors. Anyone got any suggestions please?

Hi Vennie,

Did you try recording ? if it is in local environment.

Thanks,
Hari

Hi vennie,

U can either try web or desktop recording.please try it once.

Thanks
shaik azmal

Hi Shaik,

I tried that first. It works until you logout of Studio and log back in again, then it fails to find the selectors.

So then I tried using Ui Explorer which said the selectors are correct. I then tried using a variety if clicks, IE mouse click, image click ETC, that didn’t work so I then tried using Anchor Base and that didn’t work.

Vennie

Hi there @Vennie,
Would you be able to provide the selector you are using?

Perhaps it is not generic enough, that changes in the environment, are causing failures.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Hi Josh,

I’ve attached another couple of screen shots which may give you more of an idea of the problem. I have obtained these using the recorder function, as opposed to dragging activities.

The first one show the button I am trying to hit, and the second is from the selector editing function.

If you need anything else, please let me know, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there @Vennie,
Apologies for the delayed response.

I can see the error you have received stems from a “Click Image” activity.

Have you resorted to image-based automation as a workaround for this particular element, due to inconsistencies in its identification?

As a final note, can you please launch the UiExplorer, identify the necessary button, and screenshot the selector it provides?

Thanks once again,
Josh

Hi Josh,

Yes I was trying all different ways to try and get it to work.

I have actually sent you an updated screen about an hour ago.

Hi there @Vennie,
The screenshot sent does not have a selector that relates to the required button.

Without access to the system, I would try the below:

  • Open UiExplorer, identify the overarching window, and review the Ui Tree, aiming to locate the element, or a nearby element
  • Try the “Click Text” activity (not “Click OCR Text”), providing a parent element and the relevant text “All Calls Admin”

Failing both of those, you may want to explore potential hotkey combinations.

I would always save image-based recognition as a final resort, as any alterations to the application, or display settings (resolutions, etc.), will potentially cause failures.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

Hi Josh,

I have already tried Click Text and Click OCR. Is there a link to a Hotkey tutorial, or is the same as Selector / Wildcard?

Vennie

Hi Josh,

We are not able to assign hotkeys as these are locked down and only IT can create – also not all functions is vQSM will work with a hotkey.

Is it possible to arrange a Skype meeting with you?
