No more licenses to retrieve - Orchestrator On-Premise

Hello,

I am using Orchestrator On-premise and machine templates. I have one machine template, called “PROD”, where 2 runtimes are assigned. Till now, there was only one host connected (lets call it M1). After some time, I’ve decided to add one more host machine (M2) to the “PROD” template, however it keeps showing me a message “Connected to Orchestrator. Unable to retrieve a license (Please contact IT Dept.). There are no available licenses on the server.” but actually, there is a license available. I have also tried with the different Machine Template (brand new) and it works then, however I’d like to have these two Machines grouped under one “PROD” machine template. Is there any way I can achieve this?

Hey @stary
I think this is because your Orchestrator doesn’t have more runtimes. For M2 you assigned 2, but Orchestrator only has 1. Try changing M2 runtimes from 2 to 1 and let me know if that helped.
To achieve your goal you need 6 licenses.

Thanks Piotr, that was the issue. I was wrong, thinking that number of runtimes is a number of licenses which will be distributed between machines.

I was even checking what happens after switching to 1 runtime, but didn’t wait enough amount of time, so it didn’t synchronize.

Thanks again:)

You’re welcome. I’m glad this solution helped you

The details should be right here.

The assigned number is the total licences each machine can consume and its rather annoying strict on it so that if you have 3 licences and assign 2 to a machine template only one machine can connect since if machine 2 cannot get 2 licences it wont get any.

I have resorted to making a machine template per machine in the past so I can do 1 or 2 abit more dynamically. Perhaps I should try to make machine templates based on the number of licences they use, but in practice I think one machine template per machine is actually easier to manage, even if the intent is the same template is used on many machines.
