We are trying to automate a process with a web app that uses a ‘softphone’. We’re not actually making use of the hardware but the web app requires a microphone device to be present or it breaks. How have people tackled having a ‘microphone’ on an unattended server? What do you use?

One option to consider if you need to have a “microphone” device present on an unattended server for the purpose of using a web app is to use a virtual audio device. A virtual audio device is a software-based audio device that can be used in place of a physical hardware device.
