Restrictions on Community Edition License

I am considering using UiPath for data organization in a small business, and I would like to know if it is possible to use the free UiPath Community Edition (CE) in this case.
I would like to ask an expert about whether this would constitute a license violation.
Additionally, if there are any documents or websites summarizing the licensing terms for the free version (CE), I would appreciate it if you could share that information.

The free UiPath Community Edition (CE) can be used for automation tasks such as data organization in small businesses. By providing the Community Edition, UiPath enables individuals and small organizations to leverage the benefits of RPA.

While the UiPath Community Edition is available for free, there are usage conditions. Below are some general conditions, but it is recommended to check the latest licensing terms.

  1. The Community Edition must be used for non-commercial purposes.
  2. Only one license can be used per machine.
  3. There are no restrictions for use in small businesses, but there may be limitations regarding commercial use. Please check the licensing terms to understand any restrictions related to commercial use.

For details on UiPath’s licensing terms and usage conditions, you can check the official UiPath website. Look for sections like “Terms of Service” or “Community Edition License Agreement” on the UiPath website to obtain detailed information. If you have questions or need advice regarding specific situations, you can also contact UiPath’s support team directly.

Hello

Basically, I recommend checking the original documents on the following UiPath site.

I am considering using UiPath to organize data in a small business. In that case, would it be possible to use the free UiPath Community Edition (CE)?

It probably depends on the purpose of the automation mentioned above, but according to the latest Community Agreement as of June 13, non-commercial use is only permitted, so it might be difficult. Please refer to item 3.1 of the above Community Agreement.

Thank you for your guidance.
First, I will check the official information.

Thank you for your guidance.
I will check the document you provided.

As a supplement,
currently there is something called the Free plan, which allows commercial use but is limited to personal use, and is only available for StudioX/Studio Web. If this meets your requirements, it might be worth considering.

As of 2025, StudioX has been integrated into Studio. Since Studio is no longer available on the Free plan, it seems that the only option for robot development on the Free plan is Studio Web.

Regarding the Community Edition license, in the notes in the middle of the page linked below…
“Existing Community users who are compliant with the terms of use applicable at the time of registration can continue to use the Community plan.” It seems that if a Community user existed before it was limited to non-profit use only, they could interpret it as still being able to use the Community Edition for commercial purposes. What is the reality of this? I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thank you.

First of all, StudioX can still be used if assigned a Citizen Developer license, so it hasn’t been completely integrated. Additionally, the licenses available depend on the plan and the licenses included in it. Therefore, organizations on the Free plan that have not yet been updated may still have access to Automation Express, so for the time being, I believe StudioX can still be used. The Autopilot Express license can only be used with Studio Web, so if that is the only license you have, that is correct.

Regarding the Community Edition license, there is a note in the middle of the page at the following URL…
“Existing Community users who comply with the terms of use applicable at registration can continue to use the Community plan.” It seems that if you were a Community user before it was limited to non-profit use only, you could interpret it as allowing continued use of the Community Edition for profit purposes, but what is the reality?

It states that one can use the Community plan, but it is unclear whether the previous terms or the latest terms apply concerning the scope of use, so it seems difficult to say anything definitively based on just this. (This is just my personal opinion.)

Thank you very much.

I understand that StudioX has not been integrated away, but when you launch Studio, either Studio or StudioX is displayed depending on the license.

Based on the table at UiPathのプランと価格 – スケーラブルなエージェンティック オートメーション ソリューション | UiPath, the Free plan has “Automation Express” license with 25 free licenses, so it’s correct to say that StudioX and Studio Web can be used with a total of 25 licenses, right?
(I apologize. I’ve been researching for a while, but I couldn’t find details on what can be done with the “Automation Express” license, so I don’t fully understand.)

Thank you for sharing your insights on the annotation matter!

It seems that the Japanese translation on the above page is not up to date, so I believe the information is outdated.
In the newly created organization, the Automation Express license will not be granted, so as a result, I think it cannot be used. (If the Automation Express license is assigned in an existing organization, it will be available until the next update.)

Thank you!
I understand that the AutomationExpress license will not be granted for new registrations.

Coming back to this one, because the answer has changed since 2023.

To the original question, yes, using Community for small business work like this is allowed now. Since August 2026 the Community Agreement lets you use Community for internal commercial purposes if you and your affiliates are under USD 5 million in annual revenue, which it calls a “Small Business”. Above that threshold Community stays non-commercial, so testing, education, hackathons, research and internal training. @Yoichi your reading was right for the agreement as it stood back then, the section you pointed to has since been rewritten as 2.1.

The plan itself changed too. Community now comes with 1 Pro User, 1 Plus User and 1 Unattended Robot, plus a monthly pool of usage credits that resets and is shared across the capabilities you use, including the agentic ones. The rest of the platform comes with it, so the one licence per machine idea from the earlier reply no longer applies.

@funicho your question about the grandfathering note matters less now. Existing Community organisations are being migrated to the new offering automatically, so everyone ends up on the current agreement. If you are under the threshold, you no longer need the old terms to cover commercial use, because the current ones already do. (For a specific case, please read the agreement itself rather than a forum post.)

If you want the detail, there is the August announcement and the Community Agreement, plus the Community plan documentation for what the plan includes.

I hope it helps.
