App/Web Recorder: "An error occurred while executing the action on the target application. This may indicate that the action is not valid on the indicated element."

When creating a recording of browser interaction with StudioX’s App/Web Recorder, for each text field I get an “An error occurred while executing the action on the target application. This may indicate that the action is not valid on the indicated element.” error. Everything works OK for dropdown fields, also text entry also works OK in e.g. Word, but not in Chrome or Edge.

(Latest Chrome and UiPath StudioX version 2025.0.157 installed, uninstalled, reinstalled.)

Any ideas how to fix this? This is my first project with UiPath and it is quite an annoying first impression.

Yes, the chrome extension is installed and working (e.g. I can record actions on dropdown fields, but not on text entry ones). Any ideas how to fix it?

Windows 10, Chrome (latest version), UiPath extension is installed and working. Populating text entry fields fail (however, selecting a value in a drop-down field works!). I can post some screenshots if that helps understanding the situation.

Instead of recording - try “Type into” activity and let us know if it is working as expected on the screen where error is coming while recording

if the error is about item not found or ui elementn does not exists then we need tp change selector

Posting some screenshot to explain, using the Find Unicorn Name site as example. Please read carefully before you answer.

I CAN record an item selection from a dropdown (meaning the UiPath extension works).

However, I CANNOT record text entry into a simple textbox input field. This is what I try to do in Web/App Recorder:

  1. Select the Name field on the webpage form.
  2. Click on Type Into.
  3. I enter text into the UiPath recorder input field.
  4. I click on Confirm and I get an error message.

So you are saying that the Web/App Recorder is not working properly and I need to create the activity manually? This sounds like a bug in UiPath…

Can you try by unchecking ‘Empty field’ in your recorder steps?

What happens when you do so?

Hi all, with the help of a UiPath expert I managed to find the solution: uninstall 2025.0.157, download 2024.10.8 from https://download.uipath.com/versions/24.10.8/UiPathStudio.msi, and voilà: it works! Conclusion: this is a bug in the 2025.0.157 version.
