Trying to use write line activuty to display generic variable in the output panel, but it doesn't work. how do you do that?

how do you display write line activity with generic variables in output pane. I tried doing it but the answers only show up in the logs. Is it supposed to be this way?

If you use a write line activity similar to this:
writeline
it should output your variable to the output pane.
