Trace files retention

Hi all,

I am upgrading to Studio 2025 with related packages, and found the new setting “Trace files retention (days)” in the Project Setting.

Anybody knows what this does? What are trace files?

Thereby, when a job is running using the new packages it shows now in orchestrator also a ‘Trace’ tab. Is this related to that setting?

Still questioning, what the trace is in the context? I have logs set on trace level but they don’t show up in here.
Anybody knows what this trace is and how to use it?

@sbeukema

Traces here are for the agentic automation. Whenever there is agent running, you will see it’s traces there like bellow

The trace level logs could be accessed only if you enable them from the robot settings on the orchestrator and also enabled on the Assistant as well.

Ah. So both trace parts are related to Agentic automations and have nothing to do with log-levels set to trace in regular studio activities?

@sbeukema

First screenshot is indeed for the trace level logs settings

The second screenshot from the orchestrator is for the agents.

Hi @sbeukema
the “trace files retention (days)” setting controls how long these files are kept locally.
the trace tab in orchestrator is related to this and shows execution traces for jobs using newer packages.
trace data is different from trace-level logs, which is why your log messages do not appear there; it is mainly used for deep troubleshooting and support analysis.
