Looking for "Matches (Advanced") Filter and "Custom Format" Calculation Guides

Hi all,
Is there a guide somewhere which shows how to use the Custom Format function when creating a Custom Dimension or Table Calculation?

Similarly, is there a guide/document which shows how to use the “Matches (Advanced)” option to configure the default value of a filter?
