Hi Everyone
We are building an Inquiry Management application using UiPath Solution Apps. We have completed the frontend/UI for both the Report page and the Search page, as shown in the screenshots.
We are now working on the backend and have a few questions:
Report page – Graphs and counts
We have multiple graphs/charts such as:
New Inquiries per Category
Time Lapse for Inquiries by Days
Top 5 Offices by New Inquiry Submission
Completed Inquiry Total by Assignee
We also have summary counts such as New Inquiries, Submitted, In Progress, Pending, On Hold, and Completed.
Our inquiry data is available in Data Fabric.
How can we connect the Data Fabric data to Solution Apps and implement the required filtering, calculations, aggregations, and dynamic values for these graphs and counts?
Should this calculation/aggregation logic be handled directly in Solution Apps, through a UiPath process, or using another recommended approach?
Search page – Download to Excel
On the Search page, we have a download icon above the inquiry list.
When the user clicks this icon, we want to download the currently displayed/search-filtered inquiry data as an Excel file.
What is the recommended way to implement this functionality in UiPath Solution Apps?
Do we need to create a UiPath process that receives the search/filter parameters, retrieves the data, generates an Excel file, and then makes the file available for download in the App?
We would appreciate guidance on the recommended architecture and implementation approach in Solution Apps, especially for connecting Data Fabric data, performing the calculations for the dashboard, and generating the Excel download.
Hi @Shreeya_Joshi ,
For UiPath Solution Apps, the recommended approach is to keep Data Fabric as the data source and perform heavy calculations/aggregations outside the App.
1. Dashboard Graphs & Counts
Store inquiry data in Data Fabric.
Create a UiPath Process/API layer that retrieves Data Fabric records and performs:
For your setup, here is the most reliable way to handle the data:
Dashboards & Counts
Simple counts: Just use direct App expressions like Count(Filter(...)) on your Data Fabric entity. It keeps things fast and real-time without needing a bot.
Complex charts: Apps can get slow with heavy client-side calculations. For things like Time Lapse, run a background process to pre-aggregate the data into a new “Summary” entity in Data Fabric, then just bind your App charts directly to that summary entity.
Excel Download
Since Apps doesn’t have a native Excel export for Data Fabric, the standard workaround is using a background bot:
Trigger a process from the App and pass your current search filters as arguments.
Have the bot pull the data, generate the .xlsx file, and upload it to an Orchestrator Storage Bucket.
Have the App grab the file from that Storage Bucket so the user can download it.
