How do User Licenses work?

Trying to dig in and understand User Licenses. I have Community Edition and so have the following Org Level User type Licenses:

It says I have 2 Attended - Named User licenses.

Now, I have this License type allocated to the Automation Users group

So, by logic then, any user I add to Automation Users group should automatically receive this license, correct?

Just to be sure, I checked the Allocation Rule and it says this:

Ok, so I have a second user, named Coco User. I added this user to the Automation Users group like so:

I even made sure that Coco User is using Group Allocation Rule.

But when I go back to Licenses to see if this User is now consuming one of these licenses, she does not show up.

To check I go here:

Then here:

What am I doing wrong? Do I not understand how this works or did I miss a step?

@Terry_Marr

if you see the screenshot it already says that it would not inherit

cheers

Ok, but why? I set that as inheritable by the Group members? Why didn’t it work?

@Terry_Marr

check this

have a slow read

cheers

Thanks for that. I read through it but I don’t think I used Direct Assignment. I did the steps exactly as I laid out in the question. Where did I make the Direct Assignment?

@Terry_Marr

did you enable?

cheers

You didn’t say but I assume the above screenshot was from Admin > Settings? My screen looks different from yours. It’s showing as already enabled

HI,

I think it’s necessary that CoCo user’s robot (in your? PC) connects with Orchestrator in Automation Cloud, because group license will be allocated first come first served based rule. Once the robot connects, license will be consumed from the group pool.

@Terry_Marr

I am unable to find mistake in yours but I did try just now and it is inheriting the license as well…the user you see is the developer license i use on machine…and I did not assign a license

please cross verify the steps and check if something is missed

cheers
