Format Value: Cannot convert Generic Value to System.DateTime

I am having trouble getting the formatvalue activity to format a date. The process looks at a date in excel (yyyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss) and assigns that to the genericvalue variable “Enter_Date”

I would like to change the value to (MMddyy)

I keep getting the below error:

I do not understand what I am doing wrong. Can anyone please assist?

I was able to make a workaround. It is not the prettiest thing I have seen but will suffice until I am able to understand the FormatValue issue.
