The UiPath code is located on a client’s production VM. I need to download it from Orchestrator to work on it locally. However, when I download the code from Orchestrator, I may encounter issues related to project dependencies.
Is there a way to install the same version of UiPath Studio that is currently installed on the client’s VM, so I can avoid compatibility issues?
For the same version of UiPath studio you can request UiPath support team / from the customer portal you can download the studio, but for licensing your client should allow the license for your local machine, since it is possible for Enterprise license users only.
For community edition it will be always newer version which could occur compatibility issues
Its strange you give advice like this, as this feels to me that you are suggesting ways to bypass the UiPath terms of service for Community, both by suggesting ways to avoid the automatic updates, aswell as for commerical use, which this poster clearly wants to use and is not allowed.
Its quite difficult for those of us who are trying to abide by the rules well, and are trying to justify the licence costs to clients, which are very expensive and rising, when so many users abuse the free version and even get advice from UiPath, like yourself, about how to use the free version, seemingly for commercial purposes.
The user inquired about how to retrieve older Community versions, and I provided alternative solutions—everything is in order.
For users on a Community license, installing an older version won’t make a difference, as it will automatically be replaced with the latest Community edition.
To test an older Community version without it being auto-updated, one must either use a standalone license disconnected from Orchestrator or switch to an Enterprise license.
However, if Enterprise customers are using Community versions and reach out to UiPath Support, we won’t be able to assist them until they transition to Enterprise-grade products (STS or LTS).
Its very common for people with a Community licence to use it commercially, and they often ask questions like this, replies like this facilitate this abuse, so I disagree everything is in order as it was indicated the user had a community licence and wanted to do client work.
I get your intentions are not to help people to bypass such things, but I am asking you to reconsider because I am telling you the result of such advice.
Its the same as when you see people fussing over how to get Task Scheduler to work to run robots, its a classic way people bypass buying a UiPath licence for an unattended robot and do workarounds to handle it. A ton of people use Community licences for development, and then struggle cause their studio version doesnt match a robot, again, breaking the TOS. Please dont help people do this.
Like I said before, paid users are being squeezed, the licence costs on the new plan are tough to justify with the platform cost and there is misinformation from unethical competitors that claim they can do stuff for free by abusing licences. It feels like a spit in the face when UiPath asks paying customers to pay even more, then on their forums give people advice, intentional or not, that helps users to bypass these licences and undercut them and provide UiPath work for free.
I know full well that Community Edition can be used under an Enterprise licence, thats all cool. The issue is all the Community licence users using it commercially.
