Multi User Excel Collaboration

Hello Everyone,

Problem Statement:

  1. Excel file on SharePoint synched with one drive on different machines creates multiple copies with machine name when user and UiPath robot works together in collaboration.

I need a solution on how to stop copies being made and all changes are synched on only one file.

Hi @Lakshay_Verma,

I had a similar case to be implemented. I went with an alternative approach, we used a SharePoint List to store the data instead of an Excel Sheet and used this custom activity package to access the SharePoint List : SharePoint Custom Activities Package - RPA Component | UiPath Marketplace

Hope that helps !

Thanks & Regards,
Nithin

@Nithin_P Thanks, I know list approach will nullify all those issues, and same has been advised to client but for them it’s a major change as this excel was used by multiple stake holders at different level and not within organization. So using list is not an option here.

Hi @Lakshay_Verma,

Here is a suggested another fix: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/onedrive-creating-duplicate-copy-of-file-or-folder

I have not tried it though. Few articles online do say that this can’t be prevented as merge conflicts are evident when multiple folks are updating the same file using a local one drive client.

Hope that helps !

Thanks & Regards,
Nithin

Hi @Nithin_P

Indeed, this issue is with excel collaboration, It does not happen with Word or PPT just with Excel.
Merge conflict cannot be avoided but than what if bot also use office 365, it have access have API’s … I am just waiting for some permission than see how will it work.

But thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you come across some other solution do let this forum know.
