Why does the call to SAP function module FI_DOCUMENT_READ fail

Issue

When the InvokeSapBapi activity is used to make a call to SAP function module FI_DOCUMENT_READ it fails with an error message: 'Callbacks from ABAP are not supported'

Analysis

This is a known SAP-side restriction rather than an issue with UiPath Studio or the InvokeSapBapi activity.

FI_DOCUMENT_READ is not a released RFC-enabled BAPI and is restricted for external RFC calls in many SAP systems. While the function may execute successfully in SE37, SAP enforces stricter compatibility checks for remote calls via SAP NCo, which results in the error:

Incompatible Call Rejected (SAP Note 2295840)

UiPath uses SAP .NET Connector (NCo) under the hood, so when SAP rejects the RFC call, the activity fails accordingly

Resolution/Workaround

Use released and supported BAPIs instead of FI_DOCUMENT_READ, such as:

  1. BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_DISPLAY

  2. BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_GETDETAIL

These BAPIs are RFC-enabled and supported for external consumption and should work reliably with UiPath.
