I’m trying to follow beginner tutorials on UiPath. One of the first projects has you consolidate Excel data and create a pivot table from them. I know how to use Workbook to read range of xlsx files without installing Excel. But can I create a pivot table without installing Excel? I’m trying to avoid installing Excel due to cost considerations. Is there a workaround here? Or perhaps use of another program such as Google Sheets?
Hi @Terry_Marr
No, there is no more options for Pivot table handling with other activities weather it was Google sheets or workbook.
The Excel activities are only offering to automate the Pivot tables in excel. If the Pivot Table creation in your process is mandatory then plan to install excel application then use the excel activities.
Hope it helps!!
Hi @mkankatala,
That’s correct. There are no more options than installing Excel. However, you can start an O365 trial to complete the assignments or practice more if possible. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/try
I hope you’re enjoying your time at the UiPath Academy.

I had this concern as well when going back through the initial training on my personal computer/accounts. I know signing up for an O365 trial is a possibility, but I will likely reserve this option for when it may provide more overall use.
Perhaps the Academy could be developed further at some point in the future to include VMs that have Excel licenses available. Similar methods are used for other training platforms, such as DataCamp, where VMs are spun up during the training whenever a licensed tool is needed, such as Power BI.
