Hotkey "Ctrl-W" closes Chrome BROWSER instead of current tab

Hotkey “Ctrl-W” closes Chrome BROWSER instead of current tab

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Chrome
  2. Attach to 1st tab by title
  3. Click a link that causes new tab to open
  4. Attach to that new tab window by title (which is different from 1st tab’s title)
  5. Attempt to send ctrl-W hotkey, hoping it will close new tab

Current Behavior:

Chrome closes, taking both tabs with it

Expected Behavior:

When I do this manually… using ctrl-W only closes the newest tab

OS Version: Windows 10 (Sever 2016)

Just for confirmation, you’re sending “ctrl + w” instead of “ctrl + W”, right?

“ctrl + W” (=“ctrl + shift + w”) is for closing all the tabs

THANKS for this distinction. I wondered about that but didn’t try. Trying now :open_mouth:

Hmm. It works in isolation if that’s all I do… but if I add it to my longer workflow, it actually maximizes the browser and pulls tab #1 into focus. Tab #2 is still present in the background.

Well I’m further now than I was. Thanks!

That’s interesting, really. I have no idea regarding window maximization, since the shortcut key is totally different from one for closing tabs

Hope you or someone can find any solution…

Another method is to Attach Window to each tab you open. Then you can use the Close Window activity, followed by Click Current Tab Only button.

If you want to use Ctrl+w, I think you need to make sure your Selector is right so it brings the right window into focus. Or maybe you need to use Show Window activity to bring it to focus. Not quite sure.

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

So far ctrl-w is working even as a backend robot… so I’m happy.
