Is this new feature of UiPath “IXP” ? wanted to understand about this feature and limitations
IXP (Intelligent Xtraction and Processing) is a newer capability that unifies Document Understanding, Communications Mining, and GenAI-based extraction to handle structured, semi-structured, and complex unstructured data (emails, contracts, free-form docs). It helps convert unstructured content into structured data that can be consumed by automations.
It is a capability to extract and process documents and data.
Here is the description from UiPath:
UiPath® IXP offers multi-modal data classification and extraction that unlocks enterprise data at speed and scale. This allows you to process various document types through a set of capabilities you can choose from:
- Communications Data (Communications Mining)
- Structured and semi-structured documents (Document Understanding)

UiPath IXP (Intelligent Xtraction and Processing) is a cloud-based platform for extracting data from documents, emails, and unstructured content using AI. It combines Document Understanding and Communications Mining in one place and adds generative AI for complex documents.
Limitations is like we can runs only in Automation Cloud, uses AI units, has page/field limits, and doesn’t automatically learn from human corrections like classic DU.
Key points to understand clearly are outlined below.

- It is UiPath’s backend AI engine for document data extraction
- Powers Document Understanding (DU) internally
- Responsible for:
- Document classification
- Field & table extraction
- Confidence scoring
- Learning from validations
- Uses OCR + ML models + AI services
- Executes extraction logic behind the scenes
- Not directly visible or configurable in UiPath Studio
- Consumes AI Units during processing
- Works with models hosted in AI Center / AI Services
- Same IXP engine is used for:
- Classic DU
- Modern DU
