What is the different using IBM Personal Communication and pcshll32.dll in Terminal Automation?

what is the difference between IBM Personal Communication and pcshll32.dll while doing the Terminal automation, Normally i used dll method, I want to know is thre any standards in which method need to prefer while do Terminal Automation?
