Uipath outlook and office 365

What is the difference between office 365 outlook and normal outlook ?
What are the advantages of both ?

Hi,

Outlook activities in UiPath.Mail.Activities is for Desktop Outlook such as Outlook 365 application, Outlook2019 etc.
If you need to use mail via Desktop Outlook application, please use this activities or UseDekstopOutlookApp under Gmail and Outlook

Use Outlook 365 activities and UiPath.Microsoft365 activities are communicate with Outlook/Exchange service on cloud Microsoft 365 using WebAPI.
We can use it without Desktop Outlook.

Office 365 outlook works with webapi’s (graph api) and needs no outlook to be installed…either integration services/azure app needs to be created and it can connect and work

On other hand outlook activities work with outlook application on system…and needs an outlook application to be installed

Cheers

Hi @Ritaman_Baral

  1. Office 365 Outlook:
  • The “Office 365 Outlook” activities are designed to work specifically with Microsoft Office 365 Outlook, which is a cloud-based version of Microsoft Outlook.
  • It supports interactions with mail, calendar, and other features provided by Office 365 Outlook.
  • It uses the Microsoft Graph API to interact with Office 365 Outlook, and it requires authentication using an application ID and secret or user credentials.
  • Use “Office 365 Outlook” activities when working with Office 365 Outlook, which is a cloud-based service.
  1. Outlook:
  • The “Outlook” activities are used to automate interactions with the traditional desktop version of Microsoft Outlook, which is typically installed on the user’s machine.
  • It supports interactions with mail, calendar, and other features provided by the desktop version of Outlook.
  • It communicates directly with the Outlook application on the user’s machine and doesn’t require external authentication.
  • Use “Outlook” activities when working with the traditional desktop version of Microsoft Outlook installed on the user’s machine.

Hope you understand!!

which one is preferrable ?

@Ritaman_Baral

Office365 is preferrably as it does not depend on application and work on api…so less error prone

I hope you find the solution for your query, If yes make my post mark as solution to close the loop, else happy to help… @Ritaman_Baral

Happy Automation!!

Office 365 activities make a direct connection (API) to the Azure cloud to perform actions like getting emails, reading emails, sending emails etc. Outlook does not need to be installed.

The Outlook activities require Outlook to be installed and use it as the email client. This is unreliable and difficult to automate in due to all the different versions of Outlook, patches etc.

For getting emails I recommend the 365 activities. For sending emails I recommend the Send SMTP Mail Message activity (which also is simpler and more reliable than every other method, and doesn’t require Outlook).
