I am having trouble with a UI automation where I could use some help. I am attempting to conduct data entry into an ancient DOS type system. To understand the scope of the project in more detail, I am taking 3200 rows of data from an excel file and entering this into a series of screens. I begin by logging into the system, I enter commands to cycle through three screens, I then click to enter data into fields, enter a command to cycle into the next screen, conduct the final data entry and then save the record. I then loop through this another 3000 or so times.
What is the best way to handle a random log out error?
Idea: I was considering using an IF statement for each screen, conducting a screen scrape, if the screen is recognized carry out the specific action and then move to the next IF statement. I would have roughly 15 IF statements.
Currently if I am logged out the script stops. If for some reason I do not make it to the correct screen I am prone to entering data into the wrong fields. Error handling will be critical to the success of my work.
Is there a better way to handle such errors? thank you
If my IF statement idea is the best way, how to I ensure that my work flow is restarting if the screen is not recognized? Additionally, how do I ensure that I restart at the last failed record and not back at record 1?
