Troubleshooting Error - "CREATE TABLE Permission Denied In Database '[ORCHESTRATOR_DB_NAME]'"

How to resolve this error - "CREATE TABLE Permission denied in database '[ORCHESTRATOR_DB_NAME]'"?

Issue Description:

Sometimes the following error may be encountered: "CREATE TABLE Permission denied in database '[ORCHESTRATOR_DB_NAME]'"

This error can be seen in a few different scenarios, for example:

  • While installing Orchestrator
  • While upgrading Orchestrator
  • While attempting to delete users, etc.

Resolution:

  • During the installation/upgrade process, the user running the Orchestrator installer needs to have the "db_creator" permission.
  • Post installation/upgrade, the Orchestrator user needs to have the "db_owner" role. If security restrictions do not allow to use the db_owner user mapping role with the login, grant the following:
    • db_datareader
    • db_datawriter
    • db_ddladmin
    • EXECUTE permission on dbo
