The Quality Of The Captured Selectors May Not Be Accurate Since Microsoft Edge Extension Was Not Installed & Enabled

Why are the Browser extensions on Task Capture not working as expected though they are enabled from the Task Capture UI or when using a GPO policy?

Issue Description:

When attempting to leverage the Chrome and Edge extensions via GPO policy (both online and offline) as well as via a manual installation using setupextensions.exe process with commands .\setupextensions.exe /Chrome-Policy-Offline & .\setupextensions.exe /Edge-Policy-Offline is failing to install the Extensions for Task Capture.

Root Cause:

  • TaskCapture.msi do not have the ability to install extensions with any installation method just like UiPathStudio.msi .

Resolution:

Approach #1:

  1. Initially attempt to enable the extensions from following location(Settings > Extensions) on Task Capture Application.
  1. Restart Task Capture and the Chrome Browser application to refresh the extensions
  2. Attempt to Capture again on the Browser
  3. Proceed to Approach # 2 if issue persists.

Approach # 2: If there is a the browser extension setup using Group Policy Offline, and the ID of the UiPath extension is added to the ExtensionInstallForcelist Group Policy, then it is ideally not sufficient enough to enable the extension for Task Capture.

  1. To enable the full extension, run SetupExtensions.exe /edge-policy-offline to configure the other parts of the extension - 2023.4 Extension For Edge Chromium - Offline .
  2. Restart the machine to make sure that the policies are applied.

Note :The above approaches apply for both Edge and Chrome.
