Why does the Test Manager upgrade from fail with an error of "IDENTITY_INSTALLATION_TOKEN is not in a correct format"?
Issue Description
Note:
This article applies to environments where both Orchestrator and Test Manager are deployed as Standalone Server products.
When using a different environment, re-generate the Identity token, paste it in the installer, and retry the upgrade.
If re-generating the Identity token does not resolve the issue, raise a technical support ticket.
Full Error Message:
"The value specified for field 'IDENTITY_INSTALLATION_TOKEN' is not in a correct format.
The audience component of the JWT token is incorrect.
The supplied Identity JWT token is expired."
The error above is displayed on clicking Upgrade after generating a new identity token and inserting the token into the installation token field in the interactive installer.
Root Cause
Check the versions of Orchestrator and Test Manager. If the version of Orchestrator is lower than 22.10.12, and the version of Test Manager is higher than 22.10.11, then this error is expected, because the lower versions of Orchestrator are incompatible with higher versions of Test Manager.
The reason for the incompatibility is that both Orchestrator and Test Manager moved to .Net8 after certain versions, which has brought some significant changes: https://docs.uipath.com/orchestrator/standalone/2022.10/release-notes/2022-10-12#aspnet-upgrade, https://docs.uipath.com/test-suite/standalone/2022.10/release-notes/test-manager-2022-10-11.
Resolution
Upgrade Orchestrator first to 22.10.12 or higher, which will ensure that Orchestrator meets the .NET Core requirements of the more recent versions of Test Manager.
