Test Automation Projects Are Not Available With Your Current License - KB

Why does UiPath Studio display the error "Test automation projects are not available with your current license. Please consider upgrading your license" when attempting to create or open a Test Automation project?

Issue Description

When a user attempts to create or open a Test Automation project in UiPath Studio, the following error dialog is displayed:

"Test automation projects are not available with your current license. Please consider upgrading your license."

This prevents the user from proceeding with any dedicated Test Automation project in Studio.

This error occurs because the user's current Platform Plan and/or User License does not include entitlements for dedicated Application Testing projects.

Specifically:

  • The Platform Plan does not include Application Testing (requires a minimum Application Testing Standard available with Unified Pricing Licenses)
  • The assigned User License is not App Tester or App Test Developer

Resolution

To resolve this error, ensure the following licensing requirements are met:

1. Platform Plan The organization must be on one of the following plans:

  • Application Testing Standard
  • Application Testing Enterprise

2. User License The user must be assigned one of the following licenses:

  • App Tester - to create/manage Test Automation projects in Test Manager
  • App Test Developer - to create/manage projects AND build test automations in Studio

Steps to verify and update:

  1. Navigate to Admin → Licenses → User Licenses
  2. Allocate an App Tester or App Test Developer license to the affected user
  3. Have the user sign out and sign back in to Studio to refresh the license

Additional Notes:

  • If your organization is on the Flex/Standard plan, only RPA testing (process automation testing) is supported. Dedicated Test Automation projects require upgrading to a Unified Pricing plan.
  • If the user needs to only build and run RPA test automations (not dedicated Application Testing projects), a Pro license under a Standard platform plan is sufficient
