Taxonomy Manager Error when Opening: Make sure you have read/write access to path '<PATH>' and that the file contains a valid taxonomy JSON. Additional error details: 'Argument can't be empty (Parameter 'fieldId')'.

Why do I get a "Make sure you have read/write access to path ' ' and that the file contains a valid taxonomy JSON. Additional error details: 'Argument can't be empty (Parameter 'fieldId')'." error when opening Taxonomy Manager?

Issue description:

Error starting Taxonomy Manager "Make sure you have read/write access to path ' ' and that the file contains a valid taxonomy JSON. Additional error details: 'Argument can't be empty (Parameter 'fieldId')'." error occurs when opening Taxonomy Manager.

Resolution:

  1. Open the taxonomy.json file and use the Find feature of the editor to find the Fields section.
  2. Now use the Find feature to find occurrences of FieldId.
  3. Look for a FieldId that isn't set to a value.
  4. For each found, remove the entire Field.
  5. Open Taxonomy Manager and re-add the field again if it is still needed.
