System apps in PiP mode require Admin access and fail with "The request is not supported error"

Why does the error "The request is not supported in UiPath PiP project" occur?

Issue Description

While trying to launch a System application like Task Manager, Command Prompt, etc., the following Admin privileges required error may appear:

"C:\Windows\system32\taskmanager.exe

The request is not supported"

Root Cause

This occurs due to policies being set on the Parent Machine, which doesn't allow the PiP child session to initiate System applications without Admin access, and it does not prompt to enter the Admin credentials as well

Resolution Steps

Apply the settings below to the Local group policy on the Parent machine:

  • Run gpedit.msc as Administrator to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  • Expand Computer Configuration → Windows Settings → Security Settings → Local Policies → Security Options.
  • Set “User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode” to Elevate without prompting.
  • Set “User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation” to Disabled.
  • Set “User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode” to Disabled.
  • Set “User Account Control: Only elevate UIAccess applications that are installed in secure locations” to Disabled


After applying the changes, restart the machine and initiate a PiP session. System applications should then open without any issues.
