Synchronizing Test Plan and Test Suite Names in ADO with Test Manager using Tasktop

How to synchronize Test Plan from ADO with Test Set on UiPath Test Manager

Issue Description

When synchronizing test sets in Test Manager, the Test Suite name is successfully synced, but the Test Plan name is not included.

Note: This will work mainly for synchronizations from ADO to Test Manager, if a bi-directional synchronization is needed, then a custom field can be created to hold the Test Plan name.

Root Cause

The synchronization issue occurs because the Test Manager integration does not automatically concatenate the Test Plan name with the Test Suite name. By default, only the Test Suite name is mapped, requiring manual configuration to include the parent Test Plan name.

Resolution

To ensure that the Test Plan name is included alongside the Test Suite name in Test Manager, follow these steps:

Step 1: Configure the Artifact Union in Azure DevOps (ADO)

  1. Navigate to your ADO collection and locate the Test Suite.
  2. Scroll down to Artifact Union settings.
  3. In the Relationship field, select Parent Test Plan.
  4. Choose the ADO project and, under Union Artifact Types, select Test Plan.
  5. Save the changes.

Step 2: Create and Map a New Field in the ADO Test Suite Collection

  1. Go to the ADO Test Suite collection and select Map Fields.
  2. In the model, create a new String field called 'TP Name' to store the Test Plan name.
  3. Select the Artifact Union you created earlier.
  4. Map the following fields:
    • Select "Title"
    • Select "TP Name" (the new field you created to store the Test Plan name)
  1. Verify that these fields appear in the Mapped Fields section along with any previously mapped fields.
  2. Save the changes.

Step 3: Update Test Manager’s Test Set Collection

  1. Go to the Test Manager Test Set Collection and open Map Fields.
  2. Locate the 'Name' field and remove any existing mappings.
  3. Reassign the 'Name' field by selecting:
    • Summary (which contains the Test Suite name)
    • TP Name (which holds the Test Plan name)
  1. Click Connect to confirm the changes.

Step 4: Configure Concatenation Settings

  1. Click Configure on the right side.
  2. Ensure that the concatenation option is enabled.
  3. Adjust the order to display either:
    • Test Plan Name → Test Suite Name
    • Test Suite Name → Test Plan Name
  4. Save the configuration.

Step 5: Validate Integration in Test Manager

  1. Run the integration and verify that the Test Plan and Test Suite names are properly concatenated.
  2. In Test Manager, the test set names should now appear in the format you selected.

The integration looks something similar to the one below:

Conclusion

Following these steps ensures that both the Test Plan and Test Suite names are synchronized in Test Manager. This improves clarity, making it easier to track and manage Test Sets efficiently. Further customization of the concatenation order can fit specific workflows.
