I am trying to upload assigment ZIP files… it just sits there with the following status:

@loginerror How do we establish why the assignment failed if it is not failing on my side?

Of course. In this case, I would suggest having a look over here:

Or, if you want to skip to the topics with a post marked as a solution, you could add in:solved at the end of the search phrase, like so:
