Studio should be able to CRUD (import, export, rename, etc) projects. I came across a few forum posts talking about renaming JSON files to rename the project, which while tedious isn’t that bad. But apparently the name is used differently in different places, and that might screw things up:
Those are old posts, you can rename within studio now and don’t need to manually update the invokes nor the json file. Sadly I don’t remember since which version this is available but 2019.4 already has it, if I’m not mistaken.
- For workflows and folders just do right click, within the
Project Panel
, in the file/folder you want to rename and selectRename
. - For the project name and description just click in the gear icon.
Here’s a screenshot of the Project Panel

The original post is about projects, not XAML files.
Regarding XAML files: rename and delete are there, but there’s no copy, paste, import, or export, so they could use some more CRUD too.
First of all, I want to say that I don’t mean to discard your suggestion, I’m just trying to let you know which things are already available for you to use.
If you still think that there are things missing, it’s a totally valid point and that’s the whole point of having this category.
In my opinion, there’s no need for exports, since you can do it just by copying the file manually. The sames goes for copy & paste.
Import is already there, it wasn’t displayed in the previous picture because I right clicked file, but if you do it in a folder or at the process declaration (in previous pricture would be BlankProcess
) you’ll see the option:
I’m referring to projects, not XAML files, in the OP. I just caught that, and edited my earlier reply.
Oh ok, now I get why
I believe you could rename project
Cheers
Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I added it to our internal ideas tracker for our team to consider.

Renaming is supported as @J0ska correctly pointed out. We are also looking into creating a project specific extension with future increments. That will help with identifying projects better locally or in the taskbar Studio recent files/projects. If there are other suggestions please help us understand them here or raise them separately.
