Start Execution of a Test Set Using Orchestrator HTTP Request

How to Start execution of a test set using Orchestrator HTTP request

Note: An individual Test Case can be executed through the API only by converting it into a Test Set, since test cases do not have an associated ID. The ID that is generated during a test case execution is dynamic and unreliable.

This process can be divided into two steps with an Orchestrator HTTP Request activity in each of it.

Step 1: Place an Orchestrator HTTP Request activity (This activity is to get the list of all the test sets present in the folder along with their details)

  • Select the Orchestrator folder path as the folder in which your test set is present

  • Method - GET

  • Relative Endpoint - "/odata/TestSets"

  • JSON Payload - Leave it empty or just provide "{}"

  • In the properties of this activity, provide variables for the fields Response and Status Code in the output

  • Output the response and store the ID of the test set.

Step 2: Place another Orchestrator HTTP Request activity (This activity will start the execution of the test set)

  • Select the Orchestrator folder path as the folder in which your test set is present.

  • Method - POST

  • Relative Endpoint - "api/TestAutomation/StartTestSetExecution?testSetId={ID}&triggerType=Manual"

  • JSON Payload - Leave it empty or just provide "{}"

  • In the properties of this activity, provide variables for the fields Response and Status Code in the output

  • Output the response which is a TestExecutionID.
