What are the potential causes for Excel sign in pop-up to appear when the Robot is accessing Excel files

Issue Description

When the Robot is accessing an Excel file, a sign in pop-up appears saying: "Type the email of the account you would like to use to open <linked file>".

Root Cause

The spreadsheet is linked to another file and the sign in prompt is to enter the email that has access to the linked file.


Resolution

A sign in pop-up appears under a few circumstances like:

  1. Licensing the Office product
  2. Formulas that refer to a different file
  3. Other files that are linked to the spreadsheet


Follow the steps below:

  1. Investigate if the Office product is licensed. If yes, pursue analysis with steps 2 and 3.
  2. In Excel, click on 'Formulas' - 'Name Manager' and check if there are any references present:

  1. Delete the reference and try running the Robot.
  2. Also, see if there are other files linked to the spreadsheet:

  1. Click on 'Edit Links' and delete if any.
