If i`m not mistaken and understand what you are asking, the only way you could change the number of retries is either from the orchestrator option when creating a queue or from the config file if you are not using orchestrator.

I don`t think its possible to set a specific number of retries only for a item. What you could do however is to manually retry the item on the orchestrator queue if it fails.
