I Have a scanerio where i need some clarification. I have one machine template under that 3 different processes are running and 1 of the 3 process have 3 runtimes (3 robot accounts) and other two process have 1 each so in total 5 runtimes. I have noticed that process having 1 run time is using other process runtime. Also, however it should not use others runtime. I beleive its using since machine teamplate is same . Is there a way to limit the runtimes to folder level or process level so that each process should use runtime assigned to it.
Thanks. @dokumentor
hi @malikg ,
runtimes are allocated at the machine template level, not per process. So if multiple processes use the same machine template in the same folder, they all share the same runtime pool. That’s why a process with 1 intended runtime can still consume others.
There is no way to restrict runtimes at the process level.
Recommended solution
To enforce isolation, you need to separate resources:
Create different machine templates per process (or per group)
Assign the required number of runtimes to each template
Map each process to its dedicated machine template
This is the only reliable way to ensure one process doesn’t use another’s runtimes.
Folder is not same each process have different folder just machine template is same
This is expected. Even across different folders, if the same machine template is used, its runtimes are shared.
UiPath does not isolate runtimes per process or folder. To enforce separation, use separate machine templates with dedicated runtimes for each process/folder.
oh I see so only way is to segrigate the template ? do you have any documentation link on this or any article
Hi @malikg
Another way to resolve this issue is that if your process has triggers, then in your trigger configuration you can set a specific runtime to a specific process only:
By doing this, only that process will be triggered and run by one specific runtime.
triggers are there but there is no such option to set a specific runtime
screenshot you shared i have set that aleady but i doubt it will help because its already assigned to specific process and i dont see anything sperific to runtime in triggers itself
In this case I agree with the initial statement.
Create multiple machine templates. Instead of one template with 5 runtimes, create multiple templates, for example:
Template A → 3 runtimes (for Process A)
Template B → 1 runtime (for Process B)
Template C → 1 runtime (for Process C)
Assign each process to its own template. This will prevent it from overlapping.
Give it a try and let us know ![]()
It might also be worth thinking about what the objective is from the configuration?
Balancing isolation and dedication with licence / Runtime usage optimisation.
can you elaborate it ?
Yes, this behavior is expected when processes share the same machine template and available runtimes in the same folder. UiPath allocates any free runtime from the machine pool unless restrictions are configured.
To control this, you can:
- Use separate machine templates for dedicated runtimes
- Use separate folders with dedicated robot accounts
- Configure specific robot/machine mappings for each process
Currently, runtime allocation is mainly controlled at the machine + folder + user level, not directly at individual process level.
Reference:
if we have to separte the template, can we use the new template with the same machine? means two template linked with one machine is it possible ?
Yes, a single machine can be linked to multiple machine templates. However, if the same machine and robot accounts are shared, runtimes can still be consumed across processes. For proper isolation, use dedicated robot accounts and/or separate folders along with separate machine templates.
what about the machine key for the new template that was created? New tempalte will have a new machine key how to handle that then ? as the machine will already be linked with the previous machine key
When you say different runtime is being used
do you mean you ahve one machine and 5 accounts can login to that machine?
if so for processes with single runtimes you can directly select in trigger
and also its better you create account machine mapoping and select it. you can enable it by following below steps Orchestrator - Configuring Account-machine Mappings
account machine mapping helps in selecting specific resources combinations
cheers
Account-Machine Mapping is likely a better fit than creating a new machine template, as it avoids managing additional machine keys. You can create dedicated account-machine mappings and select them in the trigger so each process uses only its assigned runtime.
can you explain a bit more may be some screenshots will be helpful
