Retrieving and Changing Grafana Credentials in Automation Suite

How to fetch the Grafana Password separately?

Applicable Automation Suite Versions:

  • 23.4.x

  • 23.10.x

  • 24.10.x

Resolution Steps:

Retrieving Grafana Credentials

For Automation Suite Version 24.10.x

Use the following command to fetch the password for the admin username:

kubectl -n monitoring get secrets/grafana-creds -o 'jsonpath={.data.admin-user}' | base64 -d; echo

For Automation Suite Versions 23.4.x and 23.10.x

Use the following command to fetch the password for the admin username:

kubectl -n cattle-monitoring-system get secrets/rancher-monitoring-grafana -o "jsonpath={.data.admin-password}" | base64 -d; echo

Changing the Grafana Password using GUI

  1. Retrieve the current Grafana admin credentials using the appropriate command based on your Automation Suite version.

  2. Log in to the Grafana web interface using the retrieved admin username and password.

  3. Navigate to the Configuration or Admin Settings section within Grafana.

  4. Locate the option to change the password and enter a new password.

  5. Save your changes.

Updating the Grafana Password in Kubernetes

If you are using a Kubernetes-based deployment, you need to update the Kubernetes secret after changing the password (Example command used with Automation Suite version 24.10.x):

kubectl patch secret grafana-creds -n monitoring --type='json' -p='{"data":{"admin-password":"$(echo -n newpassword | base64)"}}'

High Availability Considerations

If your Grafana instance is running in a High Availability (HA) setup, ensure that session handling and replica synchronization are properly managed as per the official documentation.
