I’m taking the UiPath course, and when I try to use the “Use Application/Browser” activity, I’m unable to select my browser, apparently due to an extension error. I’ve tried reinstalling it both through the browser and through Studio, but it didn’t resolve the issue. I managed to practice using the “CV Screen Scope,” which allowed me to follow the class and conduct tests, but the functionalities are different. I’ll attach a screenshot of the error that appears when I try to select the extension; I would appreciate any help anyone could provide!
Are you on corporate laptop? Or any group policies are present?
Please check this specifically for nativemessaging.exe
Cheers
Hi @Luis_Felipe
This can happen if the UiPath Edge extension is installed but blocked by a browser or corporate policy.
You can try the following checks:
-
Open
edge://extensionsand verify that UiPath Web Automation is installed and enabled. -
Make sure Developer mode is not causing any extension conflict.
-
Restart both Edge and UiPath Studio after reinstalling the extension.
-
In UiPath Studio, check Home → Tools → UiPath Extensions and reinstall/repair the Edge extension.
-
If this is a corporate laptop, check whether an organization policy is blocking the extension. You can verify this under
edge://policy. -
Also make sure the Edge version and UiPath Studio version are supported together.
Since you mentioned that the issue occurs specifically when selecting the browser in Use Application/Browser, checking the corporate Edge policies would be a good next step.
Hope this helps!
Hi @Luis_Felipe
Since the message says “Re-install the extension from UiPath Studio”, why not simply follow that instruction? By the way, you can uninstall and reinstall the UiPath extension from the Backstage menu using the steps below.
If helpful, pls mark this as a solution!
Hi @Luis_Felipe
I had the same issue with the message “The native part of the extension is not configured correctly.”
The problem was with the UiPath browser extension/native messaging component. I closed the browser, reinstalled the browser extension from UiPath Studio → Tools → UiPath Extensions, and restarted the machine.
After that, I was able to select the browser normally using Use Application/Browser.
Hi Luis,
The error “The native part of the extension is not configured correctly” usually means the communication between the browser extension and UiPath Studio is broken. Reinstalling the extension from an Administrator-launched UiPath Studio and restarting the browser resolves the issue in most cases.
Thanks
Hi @Luis_Felipe,
Welcome to the community.
We have also seen this issue occasionally when the UiPath browser extension is installed during Studio installation. Try removing the UiPath extension from Edge restart Edge, and then reinstall it manually from the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.
Thanks!
Hi @Luis_Felipe,
Confirm the extension is actually installed and enabled. Go to chrome://extensions/ in Chrome, check that “UiPath Web Automation” is present and toggled on.
Check if ChromeNativeMessaging.exe is running. Open Task Manager while Chrome is open and look for ChromeNativeMessaging.exe. If it’s not there, that’s your confirmed root cause. Troubleshoot this issue from here.
Right-click the Chrome icon in the system tray → Exit, to kill any lingering background processes, then reopen Chrome and Studio.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Yes, I am on a corporate laptop, I opened a ticket to try running SetupExtensions.exe, as I do not have admin permissions, thank you for the help.
I tried this solution several times, but I was not successful. Since I am on a corporate laptop, I chose to contact IT to see if they can give me permission to run SetupExtensions.exe.
if nativemessaging.exe is not started when you open the edge then thats the issue mostly…
youc an check the task manager if it starts and troubleshoot guide provided above shows what to do
cheers
