Orchestrator Install Fails and Install Logs say "Application pools cannot be started unless the Windows Activation Service (WAS) is running"

How to resolve when the Orchestrator install fails and the install logs say Application pools cannot be started unless the Windows Activation Service (WAS) is running." ?

Issue Description: During an install, Orchestrator fails. Checking the logs there is an error that says "Orchestrator install fails and the install logs say Application pools cannot be started unless the Windows Activation Service (WAS) is running."

Resolution :

  1. Open a command prompt as and admin and type "iisreset" - This will restart the IIS service
  2. Go to the start menu and type "services.msc"
  3. Make sure the "Windows Process Activation Service" is running
  4. The installer will stop the Orchestrator application during the install. However, it can be good idea to stop everything before hand. Once all processes have stopped executing, the following command can be used to stop the application
  • C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd stop appool /appool .name:"UiPath Orchestrator"
