Native method returns no text after Adobe Reader update

Scenario:

After updating Adobe Reader to 19.012.20034 (or any newer) Screen Scraping using Native method returns empty string instead of text. With older Adobe Reader version (like 19.010.20099) Native method works without any issues. We’ve observed that behaviour using various UiPath versions (2018.1.4 and 2018.4.6)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Make sure that you have Adobe Reader in version older than 19.012.20034 and disabled “Run in AppContainer” option.
  2. Create workflow that will scrape text from PDF using Natvie method (before scraping open and close Preferences window, without this step scraping might not work).
  3. Update Adobe Reader to newest version (at least 19.012.20034).
  4. Run created workflow and compare results

Current Behavior:

As in the scenario

Expected Behavior:

Text should be visible using Native method

Studio/Robot/Orchestrator Version:

Last stable behavior: N/A
Last stable version: N/A
OS Version: Windows 10, Windows Server 2016
Others if Relevant: (workflow, logs, .net version, service pack, etc): Adobe Reader 19.012.20034, Adobe Reader 19.010.20099

Hi,

What’s the current status of this issue? We’ve noticed that this problem affects also Adobe Reader 2017 Classic Track.

Our team is still working on it. There’s no date I could share you with as this requires some research over the adobe updates etc. Latest updates changed something in the structure and this is the reason why Reader returns no text. We suggest to use older version and not updating it. Eventually CV activities might be helpful here
