Moved to a new computer, and I can all file are Read-Only in Studio

I have made over 40 projects doing training in the Academy. I got a new laptop and installed hen upgraded Studio Community Edition, and copied all my project to the new setup. I can sign in to Studio, and am using the Studio Profile. but I can’t change anything, nor add a new project as all the files are marked Read-Only in studio are read-only.

They are not read only on the file system. I can edit them all with and Notepad and Visual Studio Code.

I am signed can sign in to Orchestrator and Automation Cloud. In Settings, Studio says I cannot change licensing while attached to Orchestrator whether I am signed in or not. I have not done anything directly in Orchestrator nor Automation Cloud. So far all the projects I made just work.

I must be missing a step I did when I set up my old computer. That host is turned off.

What am I missing?

@John_Chapman

Is a role attached to the user youa re signed in?

Check in orchestrator → tenant → manage access → edit user and check automation developer role is assigned

Cheers

Thanks for your help/ Manage Access is greyed.

It did all work on my old machine, and the only difference is where UiPath is installed. Same user as before.

@John_Chapman

You need to disable from that old or unlink
Login with admin account then you would see manage access

Cheers

I do not understand what that means. I am tryint to get UiPath Studio in Standalone mode. I can’t remember I did it before. I can’t tell if that is the same as off-line. My old installation let me edit files and run automations without connecting to Orchestrator.

I’ve tried running the installer as recommended
and also from a command-line as discussed here

Studio - Command Line Parameters

this seems important -

  • SERVICE_URL - available when switching the Robot from service mode to user mode by not including the RegisterService argument.

My organization name was bushcraft.

I also tried this procedure, but it seems the “Community Offline” option is not available.

Uninstall UiPath Studio and Win 11 computer.
Log at UiPath
Download UiPathStudioCommunity.msi
Install UiPathStudioCommunity.msi using Quick Option for Community Users
Click OK to Setup (browser) Extensions when prompted
Wait for "Completed the UiPath Setup screen, then Launch UiPath Studio
On the Sign In screen, click More Options, then click Standalone Options
Click Community Offline (Use Studio Community without being connected to a UiPath Cloud account.
On the Choose a Profile, click UiPath Studio
At this point UiPath Studio should open.

I didn’t explain. There is only 1 account. I have only community, and only 1 user.

@John_Chapman

In the latest versions community edition does not support offline mode

Cheers

So how have I been using it for the last 2 months?

Community makes you upgrade to the latest version… I was running 24.10.

@John_Chapman

Are you not on community license or yes?

Cheers

It says in Assistant that I am licensed. Automation Cloud Preferences show I am the member of the organization Bushcraft, In Orchestrator/Tenant the License menu is greyed, so I can’t see the status. I can’t get to the Customer Portal since I don’t know my license.

For this instruction here - UiPath Customer Portal Login Steps - Help / Something Else - UiPath Community Forum

In Automation Cloud account, go to Admin → Organization Settings and copy the Support ID**

I do not see an Admin menu item.

As I mentioned, I have only the one account for signing in.

jc

@John_Chapman

  1. Admin panel would be visible only if you login through admin account
  2. Support ticket can be created for enterprise users and not community

Cheers

So you are saying I can’t continue learning anymore just using community as an individual. What’s the point of Community if you can’t use it?

Remember I am trying to be able continue doing lessons as I have been for the last 2 months. I can’t make new projects and edit the ones I made over doing that training. I am unemployed now, a nd was trying to start work doing automations. I’ve just wasted a lot of time.

jc

Community is supposed to be for people that want to do projects as a small company.

@John_Chapman

on community version you can run and do stuff…for that you need license

I beleive 2 months back you would have activated trail…and once trail ends the license changes to free and not community whihc will not have studio access

better you delete the current organization and recreate or create a new org with different email and use as community

your orchestrator details would be lost but the projects in your local will still be there

cheers

I will try that and see.
