Migrate from onprem to automation cloud

Hi,

We are planning migration from onprem to automation cloud, could you please let us know the prerequisites and setup procedure to stat with.

Customer is using SQL Server currently for storing Robot logs, are these logs we can move to automation cloud as part of the migration ?

Thanks,
Manoj

Hi @Manojsahoo ,

Could you let us know if the Logging to the SQL DB is being done by you separately on a Custom table defined by you or are you concerned about the Storage where orchestrator stores the logs ?

@Manojsahoo below link will help you get the solution for the same.

NOTE: This is a very high-level step, if you are new then recommended to get support from UiPath Professional Services[UiPath Professional Services Offering | UiPath].

Migrating your UiPath environment from on-premises to Automation Cloud can streamline automation management and benefit from cloud-based scalability and features. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you with the process:

Prerequisites:

  1. Automation Cloud Account: Sign up for a free trial or a paid Automation Cloud account to host your migrated processes.
  2. Supported On-Premises Version: Ensure your on-premises Orchestrator version is compatible with the migration tool. Refer to UiPath documentation for supported versions.
  3. Sufficient Licenses: Verify you have enough licenses in Automation Cloud to accommodate your robots post-migration.

Migration Process:

  1. Upgrade Orchestrator (if necessary): If your on-premises Orchestrator version isn’t compatible with the migration tool, upgrade it to a supported version following the official UiPath upgrade guide.

  2. Download Migration Tool: Access the UiPath Automation Cloud download portal and download the “Migration Tool” for your Orchestrator version.

  3. Prepare On-Premises Orchestrator:

    • Gather credentials for your on-premises Orchestrator administrator account (needed for the migration tool).
    • Ensure all robots and processes are functional and ready for migration.
    • Consider migrating in phases (e.g., dev/test first, then production) to minimize disruption.
  4. Run the Migration Tool:

    • Extract the downloaded ZIP file and launch the migration tool executable.
    • Choose “Connect to On-Premises” and provide your on-premises Orchestrator credentials.
    • Select the Automation Cloud instance where you want to migrate the processes.
    • Specify the Orchestrator tenant you want to migrate (if applicable).
    • Review the migration summary and initiate the process.

Post-Migration Tasks:

  1. Verify Migration Status: Monitor the migration progress within the tool. Once complete, review the logs for any errors or warnings.
  2. Test Migrated Processes: Thoroughly test the migrated processes in Automation Cloud to ensure they function as expected.
  3. Update Robot Settings (if necessary): Robots might require reconfiguration to connect to the new Automation Cloud environment.
  4. Review Security Settings: Ensure appropriate security measures are in place within Automation Cloud, such as role-based access control.

Additional Considerations:

  • Custom Activities: If your processes rely on custom activities, ensure they are compatible with Automation Cloud or have cloud-equivalent alternatives.
  • Third-party Integrations: Verify that any third-party integrations used by your processes function correctly in Automation Cloud.
  • Orchestrator Features: Not all on-premises Orchestrator features might be available in Automation Cloud. Make sure any features crucial to your processes are supported.

Resources:

Remember:

  • Back up your on-premises Orchestrator environment before migration in case of any issues.
  • Consider involving UiPath support for complex migrations or if you encounter any difficulties.

By following these steps and considering the additional details, you can migrate your UiPath environment to Automation Cloud effectively and leverage the benefits of cloud-based automation.
