Interview Question Explaination

If the setup is in cloud, then we don’t have to setup our data base, if the setup is on premise, then let’s say SQL data base it setup. Here cloud is a SaaS but on prem provides much more security. Then why do we need automation suite? What exactly is the logic behind this service? Do I need a seperate setup specific licence or infrastructure? Thank you.

Hi @DrDanZoro

The main objective of the Automation Suite is to provide the Cloud like services in the On-Prem setup. Automation Suite is the self-hosted version of Automation Cloud. It offers all the benefits of the Automation Cloud platform, but within your own infrastructure. We had a similar scenario in our organisation.

Let’s say client X has On-Prem setup but they need to use some services which are only available in the Automation Cloud. Since they cannot opt for the Cloud services due to organisational policies, they need to somehow get these services on their On-Prem infrastructure. At that time, Automation Suite acts as an environment which typically replicates the Automation Cloud services, but on the On-Prem setup.

This needs infrastructural requirements like additional licences for the services that the clients are going to use, number of linux servers based on the services & DR setup that they are planning to implement.

Please checkout this doc which shows the details of the services which are available in Cloud, Standalone (On-Prem) & Suite setup:

Hope this helps,
Best Regards.
