How to identify if excel was updated recently?

i Have an excel parked in shared drive, i wan to know if there is any updates in this excel
( for example a new data is added), i want to automatically read this excel.

How can we achieve this, i don’t want to use a timer to keep checking the excel every time.
I want to check read the excel only when there is any changes.

any suggestions.
