How to determine if AI Units are enabled for Cloud Account?
In 2022, UiPath implemented a new License model called AI Units. This article is meant as a guide to clarify what AI Units are, how they differ from the legacy license model, and how to determine if AI Units have already been configured for the organization or if the Legacy License model is still in place.
What is the advantage to using AI Units vs the Legacy License Model (AI Robots)?
The Legacy License Model (AI Robots) is the runtime for serving ML Skills (machine learning models available for robots to make prediction requests) and run ML Training jobs (training a new model version on new data to).
One AI Robot can serve two ML Skills or run one ML training job, so the number of Pipelines and/or ML Skills that can be served simultaneously are limited to how many AI Robots have been purchased and allocated to the desired tenant.
The New license model (AI Units) is consumption based.
AI Units is the measure used to license AI products. AI Units are charged based on consumption when the models are bringing value to you. In short, the restriction for how many Skills can be served or pipelines can be run simultaneously has been removed so long as there are adequate AI Units still available for consumption.
See our Metering and charging logic document for a better understanding on how AI Units are consumed.
Validate If AI Units Have Already Been Configured:
- Navigate to the following Page in the UiPath Cloud Account. Cloud -> Admin -> License ->Robots & Services
- Check to see if Document Understanding (Number of Pages) is listed. (See example below).
- In the example screenshot above, the Legacy License model is still in use because Document Understanding (Number of pages) is still visible vs AI Units.
- If the desire is to move from the Legacy License model (AI Robots + GPU) to the new AI Units License model, reach out to the UiPath Account Owner for your Organization to request to be converted to the new AI Units License model.
- The Account Owner will open an internal request with the DealHub team to request for the customer's DU license to be converted to AI Units.
- After the Account Owner works with the DealHub team and the conversion has been completed, to confirm the conversion was successful, navigate back to the Cloud -> Admin -> License -> Robots & Services page. AI Units should now be listed vs Document Understanding. The conversion to AI Units for the license code was successful.
Additional Method To Confirm AI Units Were Configured for the Account:
- Check The Pipeline Configuration Page:
- In AI Center, open a project.
- Click on Pipelines
- Click Create New
- Scroll down the page to confirm you See AI Units (Hourly): X - See example screenshot below
- Check The ML Skill Configuration Page:
- In AI Center, open a project.
- Click ML Skills
- Click Create New
- Scroll down the page to confirm you See Advanced Infra Settings and AI Units (Hourly): X - See example screenshot below
To Utilize AI Units:
If any skills were still deployed using the Legacy License model AI Robots, the Skills will need to be Deleted and recreated.
After deleting the Skill that was not utilizing AI Units, create a new Skill with the exact same name to avoid needing to modify/updating associated processes that were calling the old Skill. Note: If the skill was made public and the skills endpoint was being utilized in the project vs the Skill name, the associated processes would need to be updated as the URL will likely change.
Troubleshooting:
After completing the steps above, if AI Units are still not visible or if the value listed for the AI Units seem to be incorrect, follow up with the Account Owner to share the issue so that they can coordinate with the internal Deal Hub team again to ensure the conversion was completed correctly.
If they confirm the conversion was completed correctly, please open a new Product Support ticket for additional troubleshooting.
